Eurotel brings video to mobile phones Print

For Eurotel customers, the mobile phone display becomes a monitor.

Prague, November 26, 2002 - Starting today, Eurotel Praha becomes the first mobile operator in the Czech Republic offering video streaming services. Eurotel Video Service brings moving pictures that were previously only available through TV broadcasts to mobile displays. Current news, film previews, and erotic vignettes can all be viewed on handsets. Eurotel's Video Service partners include such notables as Czech TV, Reuters, TV Galaxie, U-TURN, AS-Film, ATS Praha, Warner Bross, Falcon, iComVision, Techno Publishing, and Mondial Bohemia.
"We've further expanded the capabilities of multimedia services with the new Eurotel Video Service," says Garrison Macri, Eurotel's chief commercial officer. "Anytime and anywhere, Eurotel customers can use their mobiles to get video summaries of the most important foreign and domestic news, or lighten things up with erotica, cartoons, or a preview of new films like Lord of the Rings."

Eurotel Video Service is based on video streaming. Customers view data as it comes through the GPRS-enhanced GSM network. Streaming means customers do not have to wait for the entire file to download and that they may start playing the video immediately. A mobile phone's memory is therefore not a limitation, and few restrictions exist on what may be broadcast. Eurotel works with a variety of partners to supply video that includes Reuters news clips, Czech Television news clips, weather reports, erotic vignettes, cartoons, and movie previews. Eurotel Video Service is the only service offering continuous video news in the Czech Republic. Both the breadth of available video and the number of partners will be continually increased.

Activation of Eurotel Video Service and installation of the software are free. While the Nokia 7650 is currently the only mobile that supports the video sequence player Oplayer, the number will soon expand. While activation is done through SMS, installation of Oplayer is done through Eurotel's Internet pages (www.eurotel.cz) or via the WAP portal (wap.mobilejuce.cz). Customers may also stop by any Eurotel brand shop or call the free customer care line to get help activating or setting up the service.

The price for using Eurotel Video Service depends on the chosen video stream and the cost of the data connection (which is only CZK 0.015 per kB). For example, a two-minute current news report from Czech TV costs CZK 12.90 to access the video stream plus the price of the data connection, which should be about CZK 4. For complete details on prices and using the service, please visit www.eurotel.cz, or call the Eurotel line at *11 or the Go line at *88.
